George W. Beadle
(1903-1989) born in Wahoo, Saunders County. Geneticist,
educator, co-recipient of 1958
Nobel Prize in medicine and physiology for his work in
demonstrating how genes control the basic chemistry
of the living cell, appeared on cover of Time, July 14,
1958 and January 2, 1961, received 36 honorary degrees
and many awards, elected to National Academy of Sciences.
