Wendell E. Berge
(1903-1955) born in Lincoln. Attorney and author, employed
by the U.S. Department of Justice in the antitrust and criminal
divisions from 1930 to 1947, serving as U.S. Assistant Attorney
General for seven years, recognized for his antimonopoly enforcement
involving some of the largest American and European corporations
that attempted to eliminate economic competition, handled subversive
activities and the attendant problem of civil liberties during
