Dana X. Bible
(1891-1980) lived in Lincoln. College football
coach and administrator, one of the most successful
college football coaches in history, he compiled in 33 seasons
as head coach at Mississippi College,
Louisiana State, Texas A & M, University of Nebraska, and
University of Texas an NCAA Division I record of
198 wins, 72 losses, and 23 ties, with his teams winning 14
conference championships and appearances in
three Cotton Bowl games; credited with initiating on January
2, 1922 the Texas A & M tradition of the 12th man in which
A & M students stand for each entire football game; helped
modernize college football after
World War II, authored classic text Championship Football (1947),
and received several honors, including
