Steve Brooks

(1921-1979) born near Culbertson, Hitchcock County. Horse jockey, won 4451 races in a 32-year career, guided mounts to over $18 million in earnings, rode such top horses as Ponder, Citation, Round Table, Bewitch, won 1949 Kentucky Derby, inducted into National Thoroughbred Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
