Glenn W. Burton
(1910- ) born at Clatonia, Gage County, lived at Bartley, Red
Willow County, and in Lincoln. Agronomist, research geneticist,
and plant breeder, developed Coastal and other improved bermuda
grasses, resulting in improved hay and pasture for livestock
production, and in improved lawns, golf courses, and playing
fields worldwide with luxuriant grasses; developed first pearl
millet grain hybrid in India in 1965, resulting in a doubling
of that country's production, authored or co-authored over
675 papers and book chapters; elected to National Academy of
Sciences in 1975, recipient of U.S. President's Award for Distinguished
Federal Civilian Service in 1980, and the National Medal of
