Hollis L. Caswell
(1901-1988) lived in Lincoln, Auburn and Syracuse. Educator,
author, college president, helped establish curriculum as a
field of study in the early 20th century, authored several
articles and books, including two standard curriculum textbooks
he co-authored in 1935 and 1937, served as president of the
prestigious Teachers College of Columbia University from 1954
to 1962, acted as consultant to state education departments
and local school systems, opposed efforts to develop a standard
national curriculum for public schools and instead argued for
more differentiation in teaching methods, served as chairman
of editorial advisory board of the World Book Encyclopedia
