Val L. Fitch

(1923- ) born near Merriman, Cherry County, lived at Gordon. Physicist, educator, co-recipient of 1980 Nobel Prize in physics for discoveries that helped explain the Big Bang Theory of creation and how matter was formed; elected to National Academy of Sciences in 1966, recipient of 1993 National Medal of Science; attended Chadron State College from 1940 to 1942.
