Thomas E. Goutierre
(1940- ) lives in Omaha. Educator, administrator, known for
serving as director of
the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha
since 1974, he has been instrumental
in the development of education in Afghanistan, which includes
the printing of more than 9 million textbooks
and the training of 30,000 teachers in 2002; as dean of international
studies and programs at UNO, he has also
seen during his tenure an increase in foreign student enrollment
from 23 in 1974 to 1,122 in 2002 representing
