Thomas E. Goutierre

(1940- ) lives in Omaha. Educator, administrator, known for serving as director of the Center for Afghanistan Studies at the University of Nebraska-Omaha since 1974, he has been instrumental in the development of education in Afghanistan, which includes the printing of more than 9 million textbooks and the training of 30,000 teachers in 2002; as dean of international studies and programs at UNO, he has also seen during his tenure an increase in foreign student enrollment from 23 in 1974 to 1,122 in 2002 representing 98 foreign nations.
