Creighton J. Hale
Hale (1924- ) born at Hardy, Nuckolls County. Administrator,
inventor, researcher and lecturer
in the field of sports medicine, president and CEO of Little
League Baseball, pioneered the development
of youth sports safety equipment such as the double ear-flap
batter’s helmet, catcher’s helmet, chest protector
with throat guard, rubber-spiked baseball shoe and the aluminum
baseball bat; chairman of Technical Advisors
of the National Research Council of the National Academy of
Science Committee on Military Helmets,
and was responsible for adoption of the new helmet by the U.S.
