William Averell Harriman
(1891-1986) lived in Omaha. Businessman, politician,
government official, during 30-year career as diplomat
and politician, he served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce
from 1946 to 1958, as governor of New York from 1955 to
1959, and in several postwar foreign relations assignments
for U.S. Presidents, Truman, Kennedy, and Johnson; appeared
on cover of Time, November 14, 1955 and August 2, 1963.
