Martin C. Hemsworth
(1918- ) lived in Lincoln. Mechanical engineer, contributed
as General Electric engineering manager to all phases of aircraft
gas turbine design and development, including responsibility
for first high bypass turbofan jet engine now used in commercial
aircraft worldwide, which improved efficiency, thrust, and quietness
compared to jet engines of the 1950s, elected to National Academy
of Engineering, inducted into the General Electric Aircraft Hall
