Carmelita Chase Hinton
(1890-1983) born in Omaha. Educator, founded Putney School
in Vermont in 1935,
a secondary school based on the progressive theories of John
Dewey with emphasis on team teaching, community
involvement, independent study, and an evaluation system without
grades; she retired as director in 1955.
