Gordon Howe
(1928- ) lived in Omaha. Professional hockey player,
participated in a record 2,186 games
during 32 seasons in the National Hockey League and World Hockey
League, and held several records broken
only recently by Wayne Gretzky; he played for Omaha of the
United States Hockey League during 1945-46
season, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972;
in 1999 he was selected by the Associated
Press as the second greatest hockey player in history, and
the 22nd greatest athlete of the 20th century. Consult
