Frederick M. Hunter
(1879-1964) lived in Lincoln and Norfolk. Educator,
administrator, college president, served as chancellor
of Oregon State System of Higher Education from 1935 to
1946 and credited with developing harmony among five school
campuses during difficult times and building a model system
for the nation; previously he was superintendent of several
Nebraska public schools, and as superintendent of the Oakland,
California Public Schools from 1917 to 1928 the number
of students increased from 25 to 44 thousand, teachers
from 979 to 1980, and junior high schools from one to fifteen;
was chancellor of the University of Denver from 1928 to
1935 when actual building construction and scholastic reputation
