Thomas N. Ivan
(1911-1999) lived in Omaha. Professional hockey coach
and team executive, as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings
from 1947 to 1955, his teams won six consecutive NHL championships
and Stanley Cups in 1950, 1952, and 1954; then as general manager
of the Chicago Blackhawks from 1955 to 1977, he helped rebuild
the organization with long-term benefits, and the team won
the Stanley Cup in 1961; served as a vice president until the
end of his life, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame
in 1974; he was coach of the Omaha Knights during the 1945-46
