James H. Jensen
(1906-1993) born at Madison, Madison County, lived in Lincoln.
Plant pathologist, educator, administrator, conducted research
on strains of tobacco viruses, methods of disease control in
sugarcane, grapefruit, potatoes, and more; served as first
chief of biology branch of U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in
1948-49, led several professional organizations and served
for eight years as provost of Iowa State University, was president
of Oregon State University from 1961 to 1969, where he led
effort to designate OSU as one of the first three Sea Grant
universities in the nation, and established it as one of the
top teaching and research universities. Consult Oregon Stater,
