Julius Sterling Morton
(1832-1902) lived in Nebraska City, Otoe County.
Politician, promoter of Arbor Day begun in 1872, was U.S.
Secretary of Agriculture, became an effective regional
leader in the Democratic Party, encouraged Nebraskans to
plant trees and founded Arbor Day, authored multi-volume
