Richard Lane
(1927-2002) lived in Scottsbluff. Professional football
player, while playing cornerback in the
National Football League from 1952 to 1965, he pioneered the
importance of a defensive back, and set a single
season record of 14 interceptions during the 12-game season
with the Los Angeles Rams in 1952; played for
Scottsbluff Junior College in 1947, was inducted into the Professional
Football Hall of Fame in 1974, and
selected as member of “All Century NFL Team” by
Sports Illustrated in August 30, 1999 issue. Consult
