Lewis W. Jones

(1899-1975) born at Emerson, Dixon County. Economist, educator, college president, served from 1941 to 1964 as president of Bennington College, the University of Arkansas, and Rutgers, advocated that American educators take advantage of increasing enrollment, established at Rutgers three new schools, significant construction, including a library and dormitories, and doubled the number of foreign students, also served as president of National Conference of Christians and Jews.
