Ira E. McCabe

(1894-1957) lived at Lexington. Inventor and research engineer, while with three companies in Chicago, his 133 patents, most under the name of Mercoid Controls, included an altitude gauge and thermometer, mercury contact switches, pressure and temperature activated motor controllers, and safety devices for oil burner heating plants, and other inventions in medical and meteorological fields were used by various industries; was named a National Modern Pioneer in 1940 by the National Association of Manufacturers.
