Janis Crilly Meyers
(1928- ) born at Lincoln, lived in Wilber, Saline
County, and Superior, Nuckolls County. Public relations,
homemaker, community volunteer, politician, served from
1985 to 1997 as U.S. Congresswoman from Third District
of Kansas, where she worked to expand scope of Small Business
Administration and to halt international drug trade, voted
to approve balanced-budget constitutional amendment, to
ban certain assault weapons, to safeguard access to abortion
clinics; previously was member and president of Overland
Park, Kansas City Council for five years, and elected to
Kansas Senate for 12 years; recipient of numerous awards
and honors, including Outstanding Elected Official of Year.
