Thurl A. Ravenscroft
(1914-2005) born at Norfolk. Voice actor, singer,
known as the voice of Tony the Tiger for the Kellogg's
Frosted Flakes commercial from 1952 to the 1990s, he also
appeared as announcer, character
voice, and singer in almost 50 film and television productions,
including several classic Disney films and the
notable 1966 animated TV special How the Grinch Stole Christmas
in which he sang "You're a Mean One, Mr.
Grinch"; began career as singer on radio in mid-1930s
with the Sportsmen Quartet on the popular Jack Benny
Show; and later worked with the Mellowmen engaged in commercials
and backup vocals for such Hollywood
greats as Danny Kaye, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra;
named in 1995 as a Disney Legend for his contributions
to Walt Disney Studios for over 60 years. Consult Norfolk
