Robert Taylor
(1911-1969) born in Filley, Gage County, lived
in Beatrice. Actor, narrator, outdoorsman,
appeared in 80 films, seven of them rated in Magill’s
1983 film guide among the best 1000 movies, narrated
two Academy Award-winning feature length documentaries
in 1944 and 1948, co-recipient of 1954 Golden
Globe Award as world’s film favorite, starred in
weekly television series, a matinee idol in the 1930s and
ranked as the decade’s 8th top box office attraction,
set Hollywood record for longest contract with one studio
(24 years with MGM); his star was placed on the Hollywood
Walk of Fame in 1960, and his first wife Barbara
Stanwyck was also honored with a star in 1960. Consult
