Virginia Dodd Smith
(1911- ) lived in Chappell, Deuel County. Homemaker,
lecturer, was U.S. Congresswoman from 1975 to 1989, the
longest term to date served by a Nebraska woman, helped
establish the House Rural Health Care Coalition to work
for better medical care in rural areas, drafted a bill
that raised the limit on gross farm assets taxable under
federal inheritance laws, the first Republican woman to
serve on the House Appropriations Committee. Consult Esther
