Jeri Southern
(1926-1991) born at Royal, Antelope
County, lived in Omaha. Singer, pianist, known as "smokey" voiced,
jazz-influenced singer on radio and television from the
1940s to 1960s; had Top 30 hits in 1951 and 1954 with Decca
Records and in 1957 in the United Kingdom, and with Capitol
Records later for her highly acclaimed Jeri Southern Meets
Cole Porter; after retirement she was vocal and piano coach
for professional artists and worked on arrangements with
film music composer Hugo Friedhofer. Consult Omaha World
