Ila D. Weeks
(1901-1983) born at Scotia, Greeley County, and lived in
Kearney. Educator, administrator, served as president of
University of South Dakota from 1935 to 1966 during which
time enrollment grew from 900 to nearly 4,000 students and
the Vermillion campus expanded from 35 acres and 14 buildings
to 157 acres and 35 buildings; regarded by the Society for
the Advancement of Education in 1960 as one of the top 20
writers on the administration of higher education nationwide;
in 1966 the main library on the USD campus was named in his
