Albert F. Woods
(1866-1948) lived in Lincoln. Botanist, administrator, served
as president of the University of Maryland from 1917 to 1926
where he combined institutions into a state university, student
enrollment increased from 500 to 8,000, and accreditation
of the new university occurred; previously was a pioneer
in plant virus research with early entities of U.S. Department
of Agriculture, and dean of University of Minnesota College
of Agriculture, where he was appointed acting president during
absences of the regular university president; recipient of
several honors, including naming of Woods Hall on campus
