As the Executive Director of the Nebraska Press Association since January 2020, Dennis DeRossett brings a dedicated commitment to the forefront of the state’s journalistic landscape. His role extends beyond the operational oversight of the association; Dennis is actively engaged in lobbying efforts on behalf of Nebraska’s newspapers at both the state and national levels.

 

Dennis is a seasoned newspaper publisher and association executive, with a career marked by influential leadership and a passion for the press. He was publisher of the Beatrice Daily Sun from 1990 to 1996, during which time he also served on the board of directors of the Nebraska Press Association. His expertise in publishing extends beyond Nebraska, having managed community newspapers in Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma and Illinois.

 

The breadth of Dennis’s impact on the industry is further highlighted by his role as the Executive Director of the Illinois Press Association. Additionally, under a management contract, he served as the Chief Operating Officer of the National Newspaper Association, contributing to the growth and development of the press on a national scale.

 

Dennis is a leader and an advocate for the principles and values that define journalism. His strategic approach to association management and unwavering dedication to the industry make him a driving force in ensuring the vitality and relevance of Nebraska’s newspapers.

Violet Spader brings a deep passion for journalism to her role as the Sales & Marketing Director at NPA/OnePress. Joining the team in August 2012, Violet’s career began in the dynamic environment of Nebraska’s newspapers, where she honed her skills in newsrooms and composition departments from 2006 onwards.

 

Recognized as the 2008 Outstanding Graduate in Journalism/Public Relations from Concordia University, Violet’s commitment to journalism has been a consistent thread throughout her career. In March 2017, she assumed the pivotal role of OnePress Sales & Marketing Director.

 

Violet’s true calling lies in building connections between clients and Nebraskans through the trusted medium of the state’s community newspapers. As the go-to person for all things OnePress, she is well-versed in tailoring solutions that maximize the impact of your content in both print and online platforms. Meet Lindsey Tederman, a seasoned professional with a contagious passion for journalism, community, and building lasting connections. Lindsey is thrilled to be a part of the Nebraska Press Association, marking a joyous return to her roots in journalism.

 

With a Mass Communications Degree from Doane University over two decades ago, Lindsey’s journey in the newspaper world began as the Entertainment Editor of The Doane Owl. Since then, she has embarked on a dynamic career, including a stint as the Director of Student Media at Methodist College in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Upon her return to Nebraska, Lindsey made her mark as a reporter at the Tri-City Tribune in Cozad, followed by an impactful tenure as the Editor of the Clipper-Herald in Lexington, working alongside her longtime mentor, Terri Baker.

 

Beyond the newsroom, Lindsey found her niche as the owner of Charm Boutique in Gothenburg, extending her entrepreneurial spirit with a thriving shop in Lincoln at SouthPointe Pavilions. Juggling her roles as a business owner and a dedicated mother to her two children, Boone (16) and Bodey (13), Lindsey views her family as her most significant accomplishments, inspiring her to strive for excellence daily.

 

Residing in Gothenburg, Lindsey takes on a hybrid role, working both from the Lincoln office and her home office. Her diverse experiences have uniquely positioned her to bring a fresh perspective to the NPA, rekindling her love for newspapers and community engagement.

 

Lindsey is eager to serve Nebraska newspapers and foster enduring relationships with clients, sales representatives, and communities spanning from the western border to the Missouri River. Known for her energy and enthusiasm, Lindsey is ready to infuse her passion into the association, one exclamation point at a time!

Susan Watson

Susan Watson has been an integral part of the NPA/OnePress team since May 2008, bringing with her an abundance of knowledge cultivated through over 20 years of advertising agency media and marketing experience.

 

In her role as the editor of the NPA Bulletin, Susan curates the weekly e-newsletter that serves as a pulse for NPA members, delivering timely and relevant updates. Her editorial prowess extends to overseeing the NPA Press Release Service, ensuring that the voice of Nebraska’s newspapers reaches far and wide.

 

At the heart of many key initiatives, Susan plays a central role in coordinating aspects of the Nebraska Press Association annual convention, where industry leaders converge to shape the future of journalism in the state.

 

Beyond the headlines, Susan takes charge of NPA Associate and Affiliate memberships/dues, embodying the spirit of collaboration that defines the association. 

Allen Beermann
Emeritus Executive Director

After a 25-year tenure at the helm, Allen Beermann retired in 2020 as the Executive Director of the Nebraska Press Association. Allen’s career is a testament to a lifetime dedicated to public service, leadership and a deep commitment to the state of Nebraska.

 

For 24 years, Allen served as the Secretary of State for the State of Nebraska, a position that not only showcased his administrative acumen but also led to his presidency of the National Association of Secretaries of State. His contributions to the field were recognized in 2007 when he was honored as Nebraskan of the Year.

 

Allen’s dedication extends beyond the political arena, as evidenced by his 29-year military service, culminating in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General Corps. His commitment to both state and nation showcases a profound sense of duty and honor.

 

The accolades for Allen are numerous and well-deserved. In 2011, he received the State of Nebraska’s highest award, The Distinguished NEBRASKAlander Award, a recognition of his outstanding contributions to the state. In 2013, he was bestowed with the title of Rotarian of the Year, highlighting his impact on the community beyond official capacities.

 

In 2018, Allen was further honored by being inducted into the Nebraska Journalism Hall of Fame, underscoring his lasting influence on the field of journalism and communication in the state.
